Job Purpose and Expectation

Provides networking and IPTV expertise to the customer and interfaces with Development on related issues. Responsible for interoperability issue identification and resolution with Avail Media’s strategic partners. Communicates regularly with the operations team on hardware/software quality issues and continually strives to minimize gateway down time. Fosters an environment of continuous improvement while driving cost efficiencies. This position is a primary responder for Nagios alerts, facilitates customer problem identification and participates in the call tree with the 24 x 7 call center and other Avail personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify that deployed Gateways are installed and configured to match customer requirements.
  • Ensure that all Gateways have the correct configurations and deployed package versions.
  • Provide customers with the necessary documentation and training to support the installed Gateway.
  • Understand customer network infrastructures and help troubleshoot router interfaces/protocols, especially Cisco routers.
  • Understand the interoperability issues between the various technologies and systems to ensure continual operation of Avail Media’s IPTV Gateways.
  • Front line interface with client issues and resolutions, real time.
  • Assists in customer service problem identification and resolution
  • Provide support for video related quality issues.
  • Trouble-shoot Conditional Access issues.
  • Periodic travel to remote Gateway sites to facilitate hardware and software fixes.
  • Maintain the highest quality of technical integrity.
Education and Experience
  • A minimum of four year college degree, e.g. Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • A minimum of four years of experience working in the industry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working experience of video technologies and systems should include:
    • Video technologies such as Analogue, SDI, HD-SDI, DVB, ATSC, AES, NTSC, PAL, Standard Definition, High Definition, Format Converters.
    • Video compression technologies such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, VC-1, Encoders, Decoders
    • Conditional Access systems such as Verimatrix, Widevine etc.
    • Video/IP applications over fiber transmission systems.
    • Frequency bands such as C/ KU bands, IF, RF
    • Video/IP applications over satellite transmission systems.
    • Transport technologies such as TCP, UDP, IGMP, ICMP
    • Session technologies such as SNMP, FTP, Telnet, HTTP, DNS, HDCP, IP Multicast, CDN, Streaming video
    • Video applications over IP transmission systems – closed and open systems, e.g. Internet
  • Working knowledge of Linux
  • Must be able to perform duties without much supervision and utilize his/her training and experience to react to real-time situations promptly and accurately
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
